Ein wenig wurmt's mich ja schon, daß die M9 (so sie tatsächlich erscheint) nur ein ¾ Jahr, nachdem ich die M8 erworben habe, auf den Markt kommt. Spaß beiseite ;-) :-)
Sie soll wohl am 9.9.09 um 9:09 vorgestellt werden (Quelle). In einem Monat wissen wir mehr ;-)

Main improvements are

If none of these directly affect you we recommend staying with 4.8.1 until 4.8.2 has been out for awhile (nothing specific to 4.8.2 – just a good practice in general). 4.8.1 has been very stable and fast.

Anyone waiting for a specific major improvement should be aware the programmers are working on a major release which addresses many user requests for features; this release was a minor release to fix a few specific bugs.

Jenoptik und Sinar ziehen sich aus dem Mittelformat zurück

Jenoptik bzw. deren Tochter Sinar wollen sich aus dem „nachhaltig negativen Geschäft“ mit Mittelformatkameras (= Hy6) zurückziehen - die Sinar AG, die dafür verantwortlich zeichnete, will aber nach wie vor professionelle analoge und digitale Fachkamera-Lösungen vertreiben - ohne Jenoptik.

Fazit:

The head says no, the heart says go

The E-P1 is one of those rare products in this mass-produced age that can provoke an emotional response in even the most jaded shooter, which is a tribute to the Olympus design team as much as a reflection of any pent-up desire for a new category to bridge the yawning gap between compact cameras and entry-level DSLRs.

It's easy to come up with a list of reasons not to buy one; the slow focus, the dime-store screen, the lack of built-in flash, the paucity of Micro Four Thirds lenses, the unimpressive 'iAuto' mode, not to mention the fact that Panasonic could - and probably will - produce something that fixes half these problems at some point by making a compact version of the GH1.

In fact the biggest question I'm left with looking at that list is why don't I want to give this one back? Because in spite of - perhaps in a small way because of - the E-P1's limitations (some of which could be solved with a much-needed firmware upgrade), it's a camera that ticks an awful lot of boxes and fills an awfully big hole in the digital camera market. And it's also a camera that is, literally, in a class of its own - at least for now.

Ricoh unveils GR Digital III digital compact

Ricoh has released the GR Digital III premium compact camera with a fast f1.9 28mm equivalent prime lens. Successor to the GR Digital II, it uses a new 10MP sensor with larger pixel pitch than its predecessor. It continues the Ricoh tradition of high resolution screens, becoming the first compact to offer a 920,000 dots VGA panel. A new imaging engine, in combination with the more sensitive sensor promises to improve high ISO performance. It also gains faster AF and a 'full-press snap' mode that jumps to a preset focus distance for fast street shooting. It can also shoot a burst of up to 5 RAW files in continuous or bracketing mode.
